FIANCÉ VISA

The UK fiance visa allows a person who has settled status in the UK to bring their fiance to join them in the UK. Settled status in the UK means that you are ordinarily resident in the UK with no immigration restriction on the length of your stay. If you are returning to the United Kingdom to settle, a fiancé can also apply to join you at the same time.

Applicants for a Fiancé(e) / Prospective Civil Partner Visa must intend to marry or register with a partner who is a British citizen or permanent resident. Applicants will be required to provide evidence of their intention to marry or register with their partner.

The Fiancé(e) / Prospective Civil Partner Visa allows entry into the UK for a period of six months in order for the couple to marry or register their civil relationship, but he/she must not work.

Eligibility Criteria

Your fiance, fiancee or proposed civil partner may come with you to the United Kingdom, or join you here, if you are aged 18 or over and you:

• currently live in the United Kingdom and are settled here; or
• are returning to the United Kingdom with him/her to live here permanently.

To qualify for a UK fiancé visa, partners must:

• plan to marry or register a civil partnership within a reasonable time (usually six months);
• plan to live together permanently after you are married or have registered a civil partnership;
• have met each other;
• are married or have registered a civil partnership, there is somewhere for him/her and any dependants to live without help from public funds (see Rights and responsibilities for more information on what this means); and
• be able to support any dependants without working or having to get help from public funds.

After marriage the applicant are required to apply for Spouse/Civil Partner Visa. This visa is for a 2 year probationary period and subject to meeting all requirements and continuing to live together the applicant may be granted Indefinite Leave to Remain.
